MAGA Mosaic (2018)
MAGA Mosaic (2018)

Created an image of a MAGA hat in mosaic with shit on its brim and placed it on the 23rd street BMT subway station wall. The station is lined with mosaics of historic hats. On April 23, 2018 two stops away on the Union Square stop a man wearing a MAGA hat pushed a Mexican man onto the subway tracks. #PrideTrain #MAGA shit

Happy Birthday, Marcel (2013)
Happy Birthday, Marcel (2013)

I placed a facsimile of Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle readymade in the bicycle racks in front of MoMA in honor of his birthday: July 28, 1887. The piece barely lasted one day before it was forcibly removed by MoMA staff. The original created by Duchamp is lost, and the one in the museum is also a facsimile.

Help (1991)
Help (1991)

The starting point for this painting is a joke. A man is on fire and is running. He is need of a fire extinguisher, a blanket to roll in, or a bucket of water. Unfortunately, all he receives is a pie to the face. The painting is oil paint on gold leaf.

Shake (1990)
Shake (1990)

The starting point for this painting is a joke. A man, naked and caught in treacherous rapids has his hand out for expected help. The woman, naked and on the safe rocky shore extends her hand as if to shake but at the last moment retracts her hand, sending the man away down the rapids. A lifesaver is a devise used to show the gravity of the situation and to steer the viewer’s eye first to the bright red lifesaver, then to the man in danger, then to the Futurist/Duchampian multiple view of the woman’s arm in the direction of it’s retraction and then finally to the woman.

The Stooge (1989)
The Stooge (1989)

The starting point for this painting is a joke. The setting is a timeless town square. A man is about to hit another cowering man with a long stick. The back swing of the man’s stick inadvertently hits an identically dressed innocent man. All the men are bald and resemble one another. Three people in robes look on and three people in the far distance are unaware. There are many formal devices used like the golden rectangle, perspectives lines leading to the aggressive man’s head, and the patch of sky on the top of the painting echoing the stick, but I’ll leave the other meanings for the viewer to complete.
